Calling all business owners, leaders, and entrepreneurs – I want to talk about investments.
Consider how much you are investing every year on the following:
Marketing and/or Branding
Team Building
Equipment (including tools, software, automation, etc.)
What do all of the above have in common? They serve to make you, your company, or your team better – they help to progress you toward your goals and can assist in providing confidence and clarity with customers/clients which, in turn, leads to additional revenue opportunities.
All of this to say, the investments here are more often than not very much worth it – and the return is usually pretty obvious.
Why, then, do we as professionals not see the correlation between investing in our own development and the opportunities for success that go along with them? All too often, I hear the same thing from clients who have been resistant to investing in personal development – they can’t find the time, they don’t know where to start, they’re not focused on themselves, they’re nervous about selecting the right personal development course for their needs.
I understand it’s not always easy to take a step back and critically look at what areas you may have the opportunity to grow in; however, I’m here to tell you, personal development for stronger leadership will always return on investment – tenfold!
As a leader myself, I take every chance I can to invest in my own personal development. Why? I have come to learn, over the years, that my team, and my operations, are only as strong as I am able to motivate and guide them to be. I am confident in my ability to lead, but I also recognize the immense possibility that exists to continue getting better.
Recently, I was faced with making my own decision about whether or not to pursue an opportunity for personal and professional development. Though it meant travelling to Richmond, Virginia, I opted to attend this conference for Women CEO’s, and I am so glad I took the chance. Not only did I receive invaluable guidance and thought-leadership from some amazing presenters and hosts, but I also had the opportunity to engage and network with like-minded professionals which allowed me to speak about my business and grow awareness of what it is I love to do! This return on investment has been immediately evident, and the costs associated are far outweighed by what I have been able to accomplish and will be able to achieve having had this experience.
